It's all in the casting....

At the centre of my research is how the emotions and relationships experienced in the space between myself as a filmmaker and those I am filming with, are then manifested within the final film. As part of this, I 'm exploring why I am drawn to film with certain individuals and not others. Having an interesting 'subject' for a film is all very well but if you're not emotionally engaged with the people you choose to film with then this will translate into the final work, leaving the audience feeling unmoved due to a lack of intimacy. So, although I make documentary films I am still "casting" the contributors I want to film with. I am in the process of developing ideas for my films and will be posting about my journey with the people I am meeting with on here.
